Background
13th Amendment
“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”
I created a social campaign calling for the end of involuntary servitude in New York jails and prisons.
The goal is to encourage people to contact their local senator and tell them to push the bill S7282 forward. According to nysenate.gov, this bill “ends involuntary servitude in correctional facilities in New York state.”
Mindmap
I created a mindmap and list to come up with relevant concepts/wording to the issue. I came up with copy like “New York Still Allows Slavery” or “Your Taxes Fund Modern-Day Slavery.”
Through this app, I practiced many new UX concepts I read about, liked grouping and hierarchy. Furthermore, I implemented accessibility measures that I learned about like making big enough buttons and high color contrast. Overall, this project really strengthened my confidence in Figma. My biggest takeaways were honing on those foundational UX concepts, as well as the importance of sketching out many ideas to find the best solution.
